As its biggest asset, but also its greatest cost, building the capacity and capability of the NHS workforce is key to ensuring it is well equipped to meet the challenges it faces.
This strand will consider how the NHS can adapt and use the opportunities created by the new system to ensure the workforce continues to strive for high quality and efficient care. Ensuring the workforce is competent, well-trained and embracing the desired values and behaviours will be vital, as will finding ways to support and empower frontline staff, and provide the necessary leadership and support.
